Weekly Review: Myles goes home

Billboards number 1's was the theme and mostly the performances have begun to fair better than before. Looks like these contestants needed to be pushed into a theme to really show who they were.

On a day when Miley Cyrus was a mentor (although people questioned why she would be mentoring them she wasn't too bad) there were performances that definitely stood out while others fizzled. The performances that became the matter of survival to make it to Idol's Summer tour.
Lee Dewyze proved he isn't always uncomfortable while on stage. His jazzy performance of The Letter was one of the week's standouts along with Crystal Bowersox's vocally charged performance of Joplin's Me And Bobby McGee.

It was only more than obvious who would be going home this Wednesday and we were all just waiting for it. We were also expecting this week's results show to be flooded by teen idols who performed their current singles. However we weren't expecting Simon to rip away Paige Miles' last chance performance for a shot at the save. Whether it was harsh and whether or not Paige's vocal abilities ( or sudden lack thereof) were the reason for her elimination we don't know but we're expecting another reasonable elimination next week where the contestants will be singing R&B/Soul with Usher as their mentor. Can't wait.

Weekly Review: Brown goes home

So The Rolling Stones became quite an interesting theme giving America quite a few good performances. Lee Dewyze was once again our favorite with his performance of Beast Of Burden. Andrew Garcia also gave us an intense performance of Give Me Shelter . Crystal Bowersox chose a much more interesting song that displayed more of her amazing talent since going live.
On the results show Lacey Brown was sent home which was definitely expected given her continually boring performances. Orianthi and Ke$ha gave rather mediocre performances. '07 Idol winner David Cook returned with his band singing The Rolling Stones classic Jumpin' Jack Flash and instantly stole not only the show but the week.
Not quite sure what next week's theme will be but I am looking forward to it. I'm hoping that with the theme set out for this years contestants they will be headed towards a more interesting road. And yes, once again I'm looking forward to whatever Lee brings to the table for next week.

Make sure you turn on GAC this coming Thursday. Danny Gokey, a favorite from Idol last season, will be appearing on the show GAC Nights!

Weekly Review: Top 12 is chosen

So another week of performances rolled in for 2010 and another round of disappointments followed. The only stand out was Lee Dewyze and I rather enjoyed Todrick Hall's Somebody To Love. Tim Urban's performance of Hallelujah was alright but touched nothing of performances of that song from the past. The girls (although appraised this year) have failed to impress despite the powerhouse of Crystal Bowersox's voice.)
The results show gave us a long overdue performance from Scott MacIntyre and Matt Giraud which easily showed us what we're missing from this season. There also arrived the unveiling of the Top 12. Alex lambert went home which seemed like a typical choice, so did Katelyn Epperly. But then Todrick Hall and Lilly Scott also were sent packing. Although I wasn't one to rave about these two performers I just didn't think that they deserved to be voted off so early.
So next week Idol brings us the theme of the Rolling Stones and a performance from David Cook. Can't wait to see if this years contestants can outshine an Idol of the past...

Album Review: Gokey goes country in debut

An album packed with songs that display the great talent Danny Gokey has that rocketed him to the top 3 of 2009's American Idol. This time though he comes full force with a country twist to his music (apparently on advice of Randy Travis) and it more than works. My Best Days is a blend of catchy, inspiring, and powerful songs giving Gokey an outlet for both his talent, his faith, and that motivation he brought to all of us when he graced the Idol stage.

The best song by far is I Will Not Say Goodbye. A powerful song that drips with heartache and sorrow. A perfect vehicle for Gokey's intense voice, it both grips you and will no doubt bring you to tears. It's Only (the retracted first single) is the perfect song for the times we live in now and the emotions he infuses into the melody is absolutely perfect. I Still Believe is a song that offers us the faith Gokey has always displayed. The lyrics are inspired and perfectly delivered. A testament to the power of belief and prayer.

It seems that Gokey has perhaps found his niche' in music with this well crafted and beautifully delivered debut. I'm hoping that this album is well received and that it brings about just what it is displaying: Faith, love, and inspiration. I will be surprised if this album isn't what Gokey's fans and also non-fans expected of him.

Matt Giraud To Return To Idol!

Weekly Review: Top 20 perform, four more get eliminated

With the guys dominating the night it is easy to say that all the performances that will be highlighted this week will come from the guys. After Crystal Bowersox's health scare left us having to hear the guys first we found ourselves enjoying ourselves quite a bit. Although some performances were much better than others there were obvious improvements. It's safe to say that the guys dominated the week.
The best performance by a mile was Lee Dewyze's Lips Of An Angel where he showcased more of that rasp and grit that is so amazing to hear. Tim Urban showed major improvement by singing a song well fitted for his vocals with Come On Get Higher and Alex Lambert showed America he's not only the 'nervous one' when he performed Everyone Knows.
As for the girls there was not much to highlight and nothing at all to get excited for. Most were seemingly tone deaf and others just chose horrible songs. Even our female fvorite Crystal Bowersox (although she showed as usual her great voice) leaned towards the boring side. I'm sad to confess that it was perhaps one of the worst performance episodes I had ever seen on Idol and I've been watching since 2006.
This week's results show voted off the ones that should have gone home last week and lso brought us some more Danny Gokey- who reached the top 3 last year.
I'm hoping for a step up from the girls and even MORE improvements from the guys. I'm also looking forward to seeing what Lee does next...Even if that's biased or not.
